Community development

Essex Racial Equality Council (EREC) works with local BME groups within the County to build up their capacity and enable them to be active participants in their communities, promote social and community cohesion, thereby improving the quality of life for residents. We organise workshops and seminars to train community groups identified in the "Building Cohesive Communities" report of June 06 to improve their involvement in the decision making process. We develop community groups in areas where there are gaps and develop their skills to enable them to apply for funds independently. We have developed a Data base of BME groups in the County which is on our website and are developing a BME voluntary sector infrastructure to respond to strategic BME community needs. We are identifying and encouraging BME members to become involved in public and civic life.
