Our purpose is to eliminate racial discrimination in all forms so those members of all communities in Essex can enjoy freedom from injustice. We aim to achieve justice for all individuals regardless of their race, colour, religion, disability or gender in the provision of employment and the provision of public, local authority and private services, especially housing, education, health, social services and criminal justice. To achieve our primary purpose effectively, we will utilise our human and financial resources to:
- Assist and support individuals and groups who have suffered discrimination
- Campaign and develop strategies to influence public opinion, legislation, practices and procedures in favour of racial equality
- Work closely with Black and Ethnic Minority communities to enable them to develop their own organisations and strengths
- Work in partnership with other Racial Equality Councils, regionally and nationally, other voluntary organisations, local authorities and the Commission for Racial Equality. Essex Racial Equality Council is a multi-racial, multi-cultural organisation co-ordinating the focus on racial harassment and racial justice.
Essex REC's Aims:
- To work towards the elimination of racial discrimination.
- To promote equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of difference racial groups.
